Now, Tourism dept seeks translation of draft Jetty Policy in Konkani, Marathi

MARGAO
The Tourism department has requested the Directorate of Official Language for translation of the Draft Jetty Policy into the official language - Konkani and Marathi.

Tourism Deputy Director (Planning) Ganesh Teli has informed GOACAN that upon receipt of the translated document, the same will be uploaded on the official website of the Tourism department for information.

In his letter to GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins, the Tourism Deputy Director pointed out that the department has extended the period for submitting objections, suggestions and comments on the draft Jetty Policy 2022 till October 15.

GOACAN had called for the translation of draft Jetty Policy 2022 into the Official Language and had sought an extension of time so that there may be good public participation and effective feedback from all stakeholders and a cross-section of consumers in Goa.

In a letter, GOACAN pointed out that the very purpose of calling for objections, views and suggestions to the draft Jetty Policy is to get feedback from the travel & tourism trade, professionals like architects, planners and civil engineers among others. Feedback is also expected from the elected representatives from village panchayats, municipal councils, Zilla Panchayats, MLAs and MPs and the general public.

“Good public participation in giving feedback to the Tourism Department on this very important Policy that will impact various parts of Goa is crucial, however, to give feedback it is important to read and understand the document,” the NGO has said, further pointing out that many civil society members and elected representatives were in support of the view that the Jetty Policy 2022 must be available in the Official Language of the State.

GOACAN in the letter has demanded that draft Jetty Policy 2022 must be published in the Goa Government Official Gazette, saying the Jetty Policy 2022 is presently only available in English and therefore makes it difficult for those who are used to reading matters in the vernacular languages.
