Number of women beneficiaries under mudra scheme goes up

The number of beneficiaries availing of loan facilities from Goa under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana has shown a decreasing trend in the last three years. 

However, the number of women beneficiaries under the scheme has increased in 2020-21.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) is a scheme launched by the Prime Minister on April 8, 2015, for providing loans up to Rs 10 lakh to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro-enterprises.

As per the information given by the State Minister of Ministry of Finance Bhagwat Karad in the Loksabha, under the scheme in the year 2018-19, there were 44781 beneficiary account holders from Goa who have availed a loan of total Rs 5 crore. 

In the year 2019-20 the beneficiaries taking benefit of the scheme decreased to 39,040 account holders with a sanction of Rs 5 crore.

In the year 2020-21, there were 37,520 account holders who have been sanctioned Rs 5.5 crore.

The number of beneficiaries has decreased every year.

However, the number of women beneficiaries under the scheme increased in 2020-21.

In 2018-19 total 17,200 women account holders got a sanction of Rs 1.31 crore. In 2019-20, total 16,285 women account holders got a loan sanction of Rs 1.24 crore and in 2020-21 the number of women beneficiaries increased to 17,931 with loan sanction of total Rs 1.41 crores, it was informed.
