Even as the Davorlim village panchayat on Thursday carried out site inspection of the 166 illegal houses on the tenanted paddy field, the illegal occupants are bracing up for a battle for the Enable House Numbers (EHNs) for the illegal houses.
After the Davorlim panchayat reportedly decided at a body meeting not to issue the EHNs for the 166 houses, but has neither officially rejected the applications, the occupants have decided to get a copy of the panchayat resolution under the Right to Information Act.
Ex-Dy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar has informed that the occupants will move the Davorlim panchayat to furnish the panchayat decision not to issue the EHNs to the 166 structures. “Armed with the RTI, the occupants will then move the office of the Additional Director of Panchayats with a plea to direct the Panchayat Secretary to issue the EHNs to the applicants under the amended Goa Panchayat Raj Act,” Ajgaonkar said.
While declining to comment on the site inspections carried out by the panchayat of the illegal structures, which have applied for the EHNs, Ajgaonkar said, “The occupants have only asked for the EHNs for the illegal houses as per the law in force. And, we will pursue the matter to the Additional Panchayat Director after obtaining the RTI.”
