Officials must be vigilant to stop encroachments on govt land: CM

BICHOLIM
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday instructed officials to be vigilant to prevent encroachments on government land.

“Maintaining government land in Goa is the responsibility of government officials and locally elected representatives. Encroachments should be reported to local authorities and be cleared on time,” said Sawant.

The chief minister was addressing a meeting with officials regarding the development of Sankhali municipality. Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC) Yashwant Madkar, councillors and government officials were present at the meeting.

“Some people have become habituated to grabbing government land, and officials must take the initiative to exercise strict measures to prevent these encroachments,” he said.

The chief minister also called upon officials and other stakeholders to act responsibly to move the government’s projects forward, adding that only government officials can help increase the annual revenue of the State.

“The responsibility for the overall development of a panchayat, municipality or taluka lies with the government and government officials. All department heads need to pay special attention to these issues in terms of development,” said Sawant.

Commenting on development work in Sankhali municipality, Sawant said a master plan has been prepared and is with the Goa State Infrastructure Corporation.

“All councillors of SMC need to take the initiative to pursue this master plan,” he added.
