OLD GOA
Advising officials to be practical rather than theoretical when explaining various schemes and programmes, Deputy Collector Gurudas Dessai said it is important to generate interest among the villagers so that they take advantage of the same and become ‘atmanirbhar’ in the true sense.
Dessai, who is also ‘Swayampurna Mitra’ for Tiswadi block, was speaking at an ‘Atmanirbhar’ programme organised at Chimbel panchayat on Saturday. Officials of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship created awareness among the panchas on different government schemes and programmes in their respective departments.
“When you highlight any government scheme or programme, do it in such a way that interest is generated among villagers and they go on to avail the same. Otherwise, it would be an exercise in futility,” Dessai informed and advised officials to focus on practical approach rather than theoretical.
“Initially, it will be difficult to reach out to villagers but slowly as the word spreads, the interest will pick up. And if we are able to empower even a few villagers, it would be a big achievement,” he added.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, veterinary doctor Yogesh Naik explained various schemes available for self-employment like Kamdhenu scheme, dairy equipment scheme, milk incentive scheme, pashu palan scheme, gramshakti scheme, etc.
“In Goa, 3 lakh litres of milk is consumed on a daily basis. Of that, only 90,000 litres is produced in the State and rest is imported from neighbouring states,” said Naik, while pointing out that there is huge scope for employment in the field.
Naik also explained different schemes available under poultry, goatery and piggery.
Later, it was decided to hold a programme in the village where interested villagers will be given awareness on the schemes and programmes of the government.
Vocational instructors from ITI Yatin Gawas and Sachivrat Bambolkar, animal husbandry extension officer Satish Tari, Chimbel sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar, Talathi Anil Soyru, panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas, panchas and others were present.
