OLD GOA:
Old Goa locals have petitioned the Director of Panchayats to remove the panchayat secretary recently posted as he has a tainted past.
The locals have further demanded that a new panchayat secretary be posted to the panchayat, more so with the Exposition coming up.
"Old Goa needs a panchayat secretary with a clean record so that the Exposition is held smoothly without any corruption," local Glen Cabral stated, while criticising authorities for transferring four panchayat secretaries in the past three years.
Cabral further said that the DoP Siddhi Halarnkar assured them to look into the issue.
"There is a need for stability in the panchayat which is affected due to the constant transfers of secretaries," Cabral said, while pointing out the case of the Old Goa bungalow which is particularly affected.
The locals were accompanied by activists Adv Pratima Coutinho, Rama Kankonkar, Xencor Polgi and Anthony D'Silva.
