One arrested for abusing sarpanch

VASCO: Verna Police on Sunday arrested Ryan Gomes (43) from Novangully, Varca-Salcette, for allegedly creating chaos at the Cortalim gram sabha and abusing Sarpanch Senia Pereira.
Pereira had complained to the police that Gomes abused her and also threatened her with dire consequences during the gram sabha. The sarpanch also complained that Gomes pushed her husband.
Speaking to the media after the gram sabha, Gomes said the Cortalim Panchayat was incompetent. "They don't know how to speak and function and they can't answer to the questions because they don't understand a word. Forget answering, they are not allowing people to speak," added Gomes.
Later, Verna Police arrested Gomes under Sections 186, 504, 323, 506(II) of IPC for obstructing Pereira from discharging her lawful duties while conducting gram sabha and for abusing and threatening her with dire consequences and also pushing her husband. Verna PSI Raghoba Kamat is further investigating the case.
