A teacher has been booked on charges of outraging the modesty of a 24-year-old woman from Adpai-Ponda.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on the night of March 17, when the woman was watching a Shigmotsav practice session by the village youth. The accused entered into an argument with woman over some family issue and is then alleged to have assaulted her.
Soon after the incident, the woman went to the police station to lodge a police complaint, but the police filed the case as a non-cognisable offence.
The woman's family then sought the intervention of an NGO, after which the police registered a case against the accused.
When contacted, Ponda police said there was no arrest in this connection till Saturday evening.
