In a significant decision, the government has reverted Sancoale village to the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA). A notification to this effect has been issued in the latest Gazette.
It may be recalled that Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha after getting elected had brought Sancoale in the Town and Country Planning (TCP), which was also a stand taken by her husband late Matanhy Saldanha.
In fact, Saldanha was aware of fresh attempts to bring Sancoale back into the PDA and had publicly voiced her opposition to the move.
Bringing Sancoale back into the PDA will mean that the builders will be major beneficiary, since they will get more FAR and also higher commercial area in their projects.
Recently, the Sancoale gram sabha had also supported the resolution after Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar made a case that it would benefit the locals since they would get a higher FAR, which would be beneficial in cases of bigger families.
Saldanha was, however, not available for her comments in the matter.
