PANAJI: The Government of Goa has identified 81 village panchayats as being ‘economically weaker’ for the purpose of availing financial assistance under the Grant of Financial Assistance to economically weaker panchayats for strengthening their administrative scheme of 2008.
The identified panchayats will be eligible for grants from the state government with a decision expected to be taken soon.
Pernem Block has the largest number of poor panchayats with as many as 15 panchayats identified followed by Sattari which has ten. Mormugao has only one panchayat, that of Chicolna, which has been identified as economically weaker.
The panchayats of Pernem include Paliem, Parcem, Querim-Tiracol, Tuem, Alorna, Casnem-Amere--Porascadem, Casorvornem, Chandel-Hasapur, Corgao, Dhargal, Ibrampur-Hankhane, Ozarim, Tamboxem-Mopa-Uguem, Torxem, Warkhand-Nagzar.
In Bardez, the panchayats include Camurlim, Nadora, Oxel, Pirna, Pomburpa-Olaulim, Revora, Siolim-Sodiem, Sirsaim and Ucassaim-Paliem-Punola.
In Tiswadi there are only three including Azossim-Mandur, Sao Matias (Divar), and St Lourenço (Agassaim).
Bicholim includes Cudnem-Latambarcem, Mencurem-Dhumashe, Naroa, Ona-Maulingem-Curchirem, Piligao, Salem and Surla.
In Sattari there are Bhirondem, Cotorem, Dongurli-Thane, Guleli, Mauxi, Morlem, Nagargao Pissurlem, Querim and Sanvordem.
In Ponda, the villages notified are Durbhat, Querim, Verem-Vaghurme, Volvoi and Wadi-Telaulim.
Salcete has few poor panchayats including Ambelim, Chandor-Cavorim,
Guirdolim, Macazana, Paroda, Rachol and Sarzora.
Quepem includes Ambaulim, Assolda, Avedem-Cotombi-Chaifi, Balli-Adnem, Barcem-Quedem, Fatorpa-Quitol, Molcornem, Morpirla and Naqueri-Betul.
Sanguem includes the villages of Bhati, Calem, Curdi-Vadem, Netorlim, Rivona, Sanvordem, UguemCanacona block includes Cotigao, Gaondongrem, Poinguinim, Cola, Loliem-Polem, and Agonda.
