Belagavi
As the heavy rains are pounding the Belagavi and Khanapur region, the rivers are in spate for the second time since August. Many bridges in the district have got submerged due to the heavy discharge from all the major reservoirs. Meanwhile, rains have taken their toll as a 55-year-old woman was killed after a house collapsed on Sunday. Villages downstream river Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Hiranyakeshi and Krishna have been kept on the high alert.
Due to huge inflow in the rivers due to heavy rains in the ghats bordering Goa and Khanapur, the Kalsa-Bhandura rivulets are overflowing due to which there is rise in Malaprabha river water level. According to official sources, 4000 cusecs of water has been discharged from Naveeltirth reservoir on Malaprabha river. On the other hand about 20,000 cusecs of water has been discharged from Raja Lakhamgowda Jalashay, also known as Hidkal dam .
Many bridges across the rivers in Belagavi district have been submerged. Contact of parts of Belagavi district with Bagalkot and Vijaypur district was cut off as Lolasur bridge has been submerged.
Gokak town and most parts of its taluk were submerged for second time after August as water was released to the river from Hidkal dam has been increased.
