At 10.47 am on Tuesday, the official website update showed a total of 561 beds vacant at the 568-bedded South Goa district hospital, a notified Covid hospital, indicating that only seven patients were admitted in the imposing hospital building.
By evening, Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Deepa Correia announced that the 568-bedded district did not have even a single patient after the remaining ones were discharged paving the way for the shifting of Hospicio operations.
Hospicio officials and healthcare workers have been anxiously waiting for the shifting of all operations, including the patients, from the old and dilapidated hospital building.
Constant requests for shifting of Hospicio to the district building were not considered as the government was in no mood to shut down the Covid operations at the hospital.
Sources in the know informed that the third floor of the South Goa district hospital will be earmarked for Covid, while the first and second floors will be used to house the male and female medicine wards. Last time around, the ground floor of the hospital was used to house the OPDs. “Right now, there are no Covid patients in the South Goa district hospital. The third floor will be dedicated for Covid and will be totally isolated from the other floors,” officials informed.
