Oppn demands discussion on IPB projects

Unsatisfied with government s response on IPB projects, Opposition MLAs have demanded a special discussion before the end of the ongoing monsoon Assembly session.

“The IPB itself goes against all other laws in the State. But, when it holds back a project, what power does the Cabinet have to allow it to go ahead? It cannot overrule its decision”, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said. Joining him, Vishwajeet Rane said there were cases where after an IPB approval was obtained, shifting of ownerships had occurred. He also said there were also cases of share holding patterns changing but refused to name the companies.

PANAJI The government came under Opposition fire on Thursday for giving a Cabinet nod for a red category project which the Investment Promotion Board had not given approval and marked as “deferred” when it came up approval. M/s Mohit Ispat Pvt. Ltd. had in its proposal to the IPB asked for an increase in production capacity of TMT Hot Rolled MS products (capacity of 84,000 metric tonnes per annum) that was to come up in Navelim, Bicholim.
