Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes on Tuesday slammed the opposition parties for sabotaging and hijacking the good projects of the State government.
Fernandes was speaking during the Republic Day celebrations at the Canacona Dy Collectorate complex in the presence of Dy Collector Satish Prabhu and Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal.
“There is growing criticism to every project of the government and this is not a good sign of a healthy republic. The opposition should learn to appreciate good aspects of the government.”
“These days, people play politics even in welfare projects and development works. Some even try to sabotage government works, while some others try to hijack government project and claim credit for them. People in Canacona constituency are educated and smart enough to understand about government projects beneficial to them,” said Fernandes.
Lauding the central government for improving lives and livelihoods through various decisions like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, free distribution of LPG cylinders, revocation of Article 370 and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, the dy speaker appealed to people to benefit from government schemes and opportunities to be self-reliant under the 'Swayampurna Goem' mission.
A group of women presented a patriotic song Vande Mataram, while programme was curtailed on account of Covid restrictions.
Others present at the function included former CMC chairperson Nitu Desai, Shamsunder Desai and the Canacona PI Gawas.
