MARGAO
The Curtorim gram sabha deliberated on a host of issues, including the Regional Plan 2021, garbage menace plaguing the market area and power woes, even as majority of the panchayat members were found to be conspicuous by their absence at the meeting on Sunday.
Grams sabha members also made it clear to the Chair that the gram sabha does not accept the circular of the government barring any matter to be raised at the meeting in any other business. Members pointed out there’s no harm if any issue of public interest is raised by members at the gram sabha given that the meetings take place only after three-month duration.
The meeting chaired by acting sarpanch and deputy sarpanch Isabella Gomes e Rebello saw members raising the issue of Regional Plan. Members demanded to know the status of the RP, seeking information whether local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has replied back to the letter on the status of the RP. The Curtorim MLA was the chairman of the Village Level Committee (VLC) when the process of RP 21 was set in motion by the then Congress government.
The lifting of waste from the market area also dominated the gram sabha meeting, with members demanding to know why waste from the market area is not lifted away. One of the members questioned why the health department has turned a blind eye to the waste menace. The issue of erratic power supply was also raised at the meeting, with members slamming the department for the power outages and the time taken to restore supply.
