MARGAO
Dumping of mud on the Margao Municipal parking land at the Old market-Madel by the sewerage contractor has come under flak from the ward Councilors, who has called for an immediate halt to the dumping.
After the contractor ignored the warning issued on Sunday, ward Councilor Francis Joanes along with a couple of local residents stopped vehicles carrying the excavated mud on the municipal parking land on Tuesday.
The Councilor told the media that the Municipal parking land at the Old market was slowly becoming a dumping ground for debris and waste. He said the sewerage contractor did not obtain the mandatory NOC from the Civic body before dumping the excavated mud on the land. “We have been forced to stop the contractor to stop dumping the mud because people have also started dumping other waste on the land now. This has to stop immediate, otherwise the entire parking may become a waste dumping ground”, Francis said.
He pointed out the contractor ignored the warning issued to him on Sunday to stop the mud dumping on the ground.
Residents pointed out that plying of vehicles on the parking land has left the area damaged, even as they demanded that the Margao Municipality issue directions to the contractor to restore the land.
A supervisor of the contractor informed that the mud was being dumped on the Municipal parking land since the site was closer to the sewerage work site.
