Upping the ante after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Mhadei, Opposition parties in the State slammed the government for betraying Goa and Goans and asked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to immediately resign.
Reacting sharply to the statement of Shah in Belagavi, the Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said that BJP government led by Sawant has no right to continue in power.
“Truth always prevails. God is great. Shah's statement in Belagavi makes it clear that Sawant avoided including Opposition MLAs in the delegation which met him (Shah) to give consent to the conspiracy to betray Goans and kill mother Mhadei”, he said.
Goa Forward leader Vijai Sardesai also slammed the government and challenged Sawant to dispute his leadership now, or resign immediately. Vijai alleged that in exchange for his chair, Sawant has deprived generations of Goans of drinking water, diverting Mhadei for water guzzling crops in Karnataka.
Revolutionary Goans MLA Viresh Borkar said it is now clear that the meeting was held in Delhi by Sawant and Shah for dealing and selling our mother Mhadei river to Karnataka only for their political gain and finish the beautiful identity of Mhadei river.
GPCC President, Amit Patkar said it is not the thirst of farmers but hunger for power of BJP which has betrayed Goa and Goans. “The statement of Shah is clear, Goa BJP in connivance with Karnataka BJP has murdered our lifeline Mhadei”, he said.
AAP Benaulim MLA Capt Venzy Viegas too attacked the government saying Sawant and his government’s jumlas to cover up betrayal of Goa on Mhadei once again exposed him with Amit Shah asserting that Karnataka's diversion of water by taking Goa in confidence has resolved the dispute.
