91.27% students who attempted the Std X examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination have been declared passed with as many as 78 schools many of them government schools securing 100% pass percentage.
A pass percentage of 91.27% is the second highest over the last six years with the previous best being 91.57 that was secured in the 2017 examination.
Announcing the results Ramkrishna Samant the Chairman of the Board said the number of candidates registered under the whole category (without exemption) for the SSC Examination of March 2018 was 19598 of which two candidates did not turn up, leaving the final number of candidates who appeared for March 2018 Examination at 19596.
“Out of-of 19596 candidates 17886 candidates passed the examination giving a passing percentage of 91.27%,” Samant announced.
Of these 10158 boys attempted of which 9009 passed throwing up a pass percentage of 88.69 for boys while 10093 girls attempted of which 9133 passed leaving the passing percentage for girls at 90.49%.
The examination was held between April 2 and April 22 at 27 centres across the state. Among the centres, the Maxem centre in Canacona scored the highest pass percentage among students who chose that centre with a pass percentage of 96.65%, which was possible in part because it had the lowest enrollment of 179 students choosing that centre.
The Quepem centre had to face the ignominy of the lowest pass percentage after only 81.67% of the 502 students who enrolled in the Quepem centre were declared passed.
The Panaji centre boasted of the highest enrolment with 1860 students of which 89.13% passed.
This time around the Goa Board also provided statistics for the average percentage secured by the students, which stands at 61.91%.
Among the 78 schools that secured a 100% result, 57 are aided schools and 21 are government schools. Among the Special Schools, Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim, Goa, Lok Vishwas Pratishthan at Dhavali and St. Xavier’s Academy, Old Goa all secured 100% results.
Besides this, 8451 students availed of sports merit marks of which 376 students passed because of their sport merit marks.
The Chairman of the Board announced that the last date to seek a revaluation of answer books is June 1, while the last date for the supply of photocopies of answer books is June 5 and to request the verification of marks in absentia is June 22.
Students who find the remark “Needs Improvement” on their mark sheet, irrespective of the number of subjects they need improvement are eligible to answer the June examination.
The process to apply for the June examination is entirely online and will be available between May 29 and June 7th. No applications will be entertained after that.
The exams will begin on June 15 and centres will be in Mapusa -- Janata High School, Panaji -- K B Hedgewar High School, Holy Spirit Institute, Margao and S S Samiti’s Indirabai V Bhat Dhavalikar HS Dhavali and The New Education Institute in Curchorem.
