MARGAO: Ahead of the visit of senior Congress leader and Congress observer for Goa, P Chidambaram to the State, a meeting of the newly appointed Block Presidents from South Goa was organised on Thursday at the South Goa district office of the party.
‘AICC observer in-charge of South Goa, Sunil Hanumannavar presided over the meeting. Working President Aleixo Sequeira, GPCC Vice President MK Shaikh and South Goa District President Joe Dias were present at the meeting.
The AICC observer took stock of the prevailing political situation at the block level. The block presidents expressed their views and gave an account of the political situation in their respective blocks.
Sunil further shared his ideas of strengthening the blocks and gearing up for elections next year.
This was the first meeting of the newly-appointed block presidents from South Goa with a senior party leader. The blocks were dissolved last month by the party High Command and are being re-constituted across the state. Barring Benaulim and Fatorda, the Congress has appointed new block presidents at Margao, Curtorim, Navelim, Velim, Cuncolim and Nuvem and has set in motion the process of election preparedness, including taking the membership drive to the corners of the constituencies.
