System to take off within fortnight, says Mayor

Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Surendra Furtado inaugurated the pay parking in the presence of nearly ten corporators and the contractor of Straight Deal Services.
Speaking to media persons after the soft launch, Furtado said, “For 15 days I have told the contractor not to charge or levy any fees to the citizens of Panaji who are residing in old buildings until we come up with a final list of the original owners. They will be identified based on their house tax receipts. Any owner who has leased out his flat will not be able to avail the benefit. Shopkeepers and offices will have to pay for parking in the city.”
Furtado also informed that the exercise to identify the residents of Panaji will be carried out within a week’s time.
“We have also installed signboards and will soon start painting the parking slots”, he said.
