DoE says preference to be given for schools in regional languages

Sources meanwhile, informed that the high-level meeting of DoE held on Friday resolved not to grant any permission to start new English medium primary schools.
In case of high schools, DoE has received 15 applications, of which 11 are in English medium and two each in Konkani and Urdu.
Speaking to The Goan, Education Director Gajanan Bhat said, “Depending on admissions, we will take a call on permission for new primary schools. Only if admissions are in excess and there is need for a new school in any area, we will grant permission.”
He, however, informed that preference would be given for opening new primary schools in regional languages.
Meanwhile, the decision on new higher secondary schools across the State is likely to be taken in the last week of May, after the results of Std XII are announced. The DoE has received 26 applications to start new higher secondary schools in different streams.
“Once results are announced and admissions begin, we will know the actual position on whether we need new higher secondary schools or not. In some cases we may grant permission to existing higher secondary schools to start additional divisions or if needed we may give permission to start new higher secondary schools also”, Bhat said.
