Tension prevailed at the site of the proposed alcohol factory at Ambdai-Sanguem on Thursday, after locals confronted the labourers and a supervisor of the controversial project and demanded the dismantling of iron poles erected at the site.
The locals asked the supervisor to install a board providing details about the project and also sought to know whether he had the necessary permissions to start the work.
News of the erection of the iron poles at the site on Thursday morning spread thick and fast, as a group of about 50 locals rushed to the spot and asked the labourers and supervisor to immediately dismantle the iron poles.
It may be recalled that a month ago, Ambdai locals had stopped the earthmoving machinery from undertaking work at the site.
In a bid to diffuse the tension, PSI Sachin Panalkar rushed to the spot along with a police team and held talks with the agitated locals.
The villagers expressed their opposition to the project and told PSI Panalkar that a signboard providing details about the project should have been installed at the site.
The locals also wanted to see the necessary permissions and NOCs from authorities regarding the proposed project.
Later speaking to The Goan, PSI Panalkar said police had managed to pacify the locals.
“The contractor later removed the iron poles at the boundary of the site and the locals later dispersed from the site,” said PSI Panalkar.
