In a bid to bring a change in the quaint little village of Parra, the BJP has thrown its weight behind “Parra United” a panel of like-minded individuals who are contesting the panchayat elections.
Most of the candidates of the panel are new faces except for Benedict D’Souza, who was a former sarpanch of the village.
State BJP executive member & party spokesperson Gorakh Mandrekar said that his party has given a green signal to the karyakartas to support and elect the best candidates in the election.
“Although this election is not fought on party lines, my party asked us to stand behind the best candidates from the lot. All our karyakartas will support this panel and work for them in the election,” Mandrekar said, while addressing the media.
He said they aimed to work towards making Parra the best panchayat in the State and also work for the welfare of the people without differentiating between caste, creed or religion.
While former panchayat member, Soma Bagli is the chairman of the “Parra United” panel, the following are the candidates contesting in the election: Genevieve Fernandes (ward 1), Agostinho Fernandes (ward 2), Benedict D’Souza (ward 3), Mitilda Fernandes (ward 5), Ujwala Kudav (ward 6) and Sanjay Kerkar (ward 7).
Bagli said that land grabbing and cheating were the two biggest issues in the village and once elected, the panchayat body will work to clear all the ills going on in the village.
He urged the electorate not to get influenced by the envelope culture and false promises of jobs made by the rivals.
Former sarpanch and candidate, Benedict D’Souza informed that workers of other political groups and various organisations have come together to support this independent panel.
