As a video over a parasailing incident at Varca went viral since Thursday afternoon, showing a parachute entangled on a coconut tree, throwing up questions on safety concerns, the Tourist Police swung into action to ascertain the ground reality on the safety measures adopted by the operators.

A Tourist police team led by Police Inspector Jatin Potdar descended at Varca on Thursday noon to get first-hand information about the incident.

The tourist police is believed to have filed a detailed report with the Tourism department on the incident.

When The Goan contacted PI Jatin to shed some light on the incident, he pointed out that preliminary inquiry has revealed that the parachute of the water sports boat got entangled on a coconut tree in front of a beach shack while conducting demonstration/trial.

In fact, he said that there was no tourist/customer when the parasailing incident took place at Varca beach, asserting that the incident occurred when the owner through his driver was conducting a demonstration/trial.

The police said the boat was reportedly driven by one Rathod, a native of Gadag-Karnataka, a holder of a licence issued by the government of India.

To a question, the Tourist Police in-charge has said he has submitted a detailed report on the incident to the Tourism department for further action.

After visiting Varca and receiving complaints, sources pointed out that the Tourist police team is reported to have requested the Tourism department to carry out inspection of the water sports zone at Varca beach for smooth operation of the activities.

Colva police, when contacted, to shed light on the Varca incident, has informed that the matter falls in the domain of the Tourist police and that Colva police have no jurisdiction over the matter.
