The recent thefts in Parra have unsettled more than just homes – they have shaken the village’s sense of security, pushing the panchayat to enlist the community itself as the first line of defence.

In a move aimed at strengthening local security, the Parra village panchayat has decided to form ward-wise vigilance committees following a recent spate of thefts reported in the village.

The initiative, announced through a public notice issued by the panchayat, seeks to involve residents directly in maintaining peace, safety and security within the village. The committees will function at the ward level and are intended to enhance vigilance and coordinated monitoring in the locality.

Parra Sarpanch Daniel Lobo has appealed to villagers to come forward and participate in the community-based vigilance initiative. He said the move was necessitated by recent thefts in Parra and growing security-related concerns reported across the State.

According to the public notice, the panchayat has resolved to constitute ward-wise vigilance committees with the objective of improving public safety and strengthening coordination between residents, ward members and local authorities.

The notice invites interested, responsible and willing residents from each ward to voluntarily join the vigilance committees. Applicants must be residents of the respective ward in Parra village, be above 18 years of age, and be willing to work in coordination with the village panchayat, ward members and local authorities. The committees will function on a purely voluntary basis.

Residents interested in joining the vigilance committees have been asked to submit their names at the village panchayat office or through their respective ward members on or before February 7.
