The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to a delegation led by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, Benaulim Sarpanch Remy Fernandes, panch members and villagers that called on him on Friday.
While the delegation tried to impress upon the Chief Minister that land-filling of the flood plains of the village will result in flooding of the village during monsoons, the Chief Minister said that what is required to be done will be undertaken, but only after he visits the village and inspects the flood-prone areas of the village.
When The Goan contacted Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao to shed light on the deliberations with the Chief Minister concerning the demand of the villagers for a bypass on stilts, he said the Chief Minister will visit Benaulim on May 2 and discuss the matter with the villagers before taking any action.
“The Chief Minister has not rejected the demand of the villagers for a bypass on stilts. At the same time, he said he would like to first inspect the areas before taking a call,” Churchill said, while exuding confidence that the Chief Minister will take the right decision in the interest of the village and its people.
