The long-pending roadwork along a 2-km stretch of the road finally began at Ansole in Bhironda-Sattari.
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane inaugurated the Rs 90 lakh roadwork in the presence of Nagargaon ZP Member Rajeshri Kale, Bhironda Sarpanch Tereza Andrade, panchas and PWD officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Rane said the much-awaited roadwork has been started with the help of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral. She assured that pending roadworks in other panchayat areas would also be completed soon.
The roadwork had been pending for many years and aggrieved locals had complained that the bad road had caused hardships to residents, office-goers and students, while emergency services like 108 ambulances were reluctant to travel on the bad road.
They had protested in this connection and had even threatened to boycott the elections in 2017. Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane later intervened and got the roads repaired to some extent.
The issue resurfaced during the recent assembly elections when residents raised the matter during the campaign meeting of Deviya Rane and she had promised to launch the roadwork as soon as she was elected.
