The Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) meeting on Tuesday was critical about the part-time chief officer's inability to attend to council administration.
Raising the issue at the council meeting presided over by PMC chairperson Smita Kudtarkar, councillor Siddhesh Pednekar said since Chief Officer Amalia Pinto is holding two charges of chief officer and joint Mamlatdar, she is not able to devote time to the affairs of PMC.
“As the chief officer remains absent for the council meetings, it becomes difficult to carry out development works in the municipality,” said Pednekar.
PMC Vice Chairperson Upendra Deshprabhu told the councillors that PMC has now received funds to carry out pre-monsoon works when monsoon has already started.
Speaking on the issue of garbage, the council passed a resolution to collect Re 1 each from the houses for garbage collection.
The councillors said the fund of Rs 50 lakh received from the finance commission should be divided among 10 wards of the council and each ward will get Rs 5 lakh to undertake various developmental activities.
Earlier, vice chairperson Upendra Deshprabhu read the minutes of the earlier meeting and asked the PMC staff to forward the resolutions to departments concerned.
Those present at the meet included vice-chairperson Deshprabhu, councillors Siddhesh Pednekar, Deepak Mandrekar, Prashant Gadekar, Gajanan Sawal Dessai, Suvidha Teli, Usha Nagvekar, Swati Kambli and Shraddha Mashelkar, while Chief Officer Amalia Pinto was absent for the meeting.
