Pernem PI Uttam Raut has stated that they could not recover the CCTV footage in the ATM robbery case at Agarwaddo and a special team of police has been formed to investigate the case.
Speaking to The Goan, PI Raut said the agency which installed the ATM failed to take precautions in terms of security, due to which the police face hurdles during investigation.
Speaking on the stabbing incident at Morjim, PI Raut said police has recorded statements of the family members of the victim. "We cannot get any evidence. I have appealed to the locals to come forward and help the police if they have any information regarding the accused," said Raut.
It may be recalled that on September 7, burglars decamped with Rs 18.81 lakhs in cash after breaking an ATM at Agarwaddo and on September 11, a carpenter from Morjim was stabbed by two unidentified persons. Both cases are yet to be solved.
According to police sources, the burglars planned the heist well and were keeping an eye on the ATM - the ATM centre did not have security personnel or alarm. Also, the CCTV was non-functional after 6 pm.
"Accordingly, the burglars made their plan, finalised the area at Bodkadhenu hill and stole a rickshaw which is always parked on the roadside at Parsem," added the source.
Barely four days later, carpenter Pandurang Purkhe was seriously injured after he was allegedly stabbed by two persons. Police sources said some locals saw the accused in the vicinity and also had a conversation with them. "When the police asked for information so they could draw a sketch, no one came forward. The police have been unable to get any credible lead," said the source, adding, "It is suspected that some other person was their target, but they mistakenly stabbed Purkhe."
The local authorities have also expressed anger over police inaction. Local panch Prakash Shirodkar said, "If the accused is not arrested soon, there will be an increase in such incidents in Morjim."
Former Agarwaddo sarpanch Amol Raut added, "Police should arrest the accused as soon as possible before people lose their faith in the
system."
