PERNEM
Students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Pernem boycotted classes to protest against the transfer of some teachers from the school and warned that their protest would continue till the teachers are brought back to the school.
The students voiced their grievances over the transfers of the teachers and said some of them have been teaching on temporary, contractual and lecture basis for the last 5, 10 and even 15 years.
They complained that the transfer of teachers would severely affect classes, revision and examination planning ahead of the HSSC exams. Some stated that their teachers were well aware of the students' academic abilities, study difficulties, and progress in each subject.
They demanded that the government seriously consider the grievances of students and resolve the situation by immediately reinstating the teachers concerned, to ensure there is no disruption in their studies.
On hearing of their student protest, Rajan Korgaonkar of ‘Mission for Local’ and Adv Jitendra Gaonkar of Congress went to the HSS and interacted with the students.
They expressed displeasure over the government's decision and stated that the interests of the students must be considered before taking decisions regarding the service of teachers.
