PHC starts fucntioning at Porvorim

The non-bedded Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Porvorim, though not officially inaugurated as yet, has started functioning with a doctor, a nurse, one lab assistant and a pharmacist.
Blood samples of the patients are tested for malaria everyday, while diabetes tests are being conducted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The doctor also attends to complaints of the people regarding health issues and no-objection certificates are issued to restaurants, builders, etc, after conducting inspections of the sites every Wednesday and Saturday.
A casualty ward has also been set up in the health centre to attend to the people with accident injuries, while the pharmacist issues medicines. There is good response from the residents of Porvorim.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said the inauguration of this non-bedded PHC was scheduled on June 30.
“However, it was postponed as the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) could not depute an additional doctor and the support staff like a clerk, data entry operators, etc. The PHC requires at least two doctors besides other supporting staff. The DHS has assured me that necessary staff will be deputed within a week’s time,” said Khaunte.
Penha de Franca Panch Safar Phadte said with the setting up of the non-bedded PHC on Porvorim plateau, the long felt need of the people has been fulfilled.
“The residents of Porvorim had to go to Aldona Primary Health Centre for blood tests, NOCs, etc. Since the population of Porvorim and adjoining areas has increased substantially, there was an urgent need of a primary health centre at Porvorim,” said Phadte.
