A Mapusa court on Monday issued a show-cause notice to the Colvale jailer for failure to produce the alleged accused “ Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh “ in connection with the murder of BJP leader and actress Sonali Phogat.
While adjourning the matter to December 16, the court directed the investigation officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear before the court along with the Special Public Prosecutor.
Since the alleged accused were not produced in the court, a show-cause notice was issued to the jail authorities to explain why the suspected accused failed to appear in court during the hearing.
The CBI had informed the court that it had appointed a Special Public Prosecutor in the case. However, the Special Public Prosecutor was not present during the hearing on Monday.
The court has said that the CBI investigation officer and the Special Public Prosecutor will have to appear before the court in the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the accused has filed an application before the court seeking a copy of CCTV footage, which was not produced to them by the CBI.
The CBI has filed around 500-page chargesheet in the court in the Sonali Phogat murder case. It has testified 104 witnesses and attached CCTV footage and other documents to the charge sheet.
Sonali Phogat had arrived in Goa on August 22 along with her aides Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh. They allegedly purchased and consumed narcotic substance in a hotel before they went to Curlies in Anjuna for a party.
Goa Police had initially said that Sonali died of a heart attack but later added the murder charge coming under pressure of the deceased’s family who insisted it was a planned murder.
