People will find Calangute unsafe if illegal activities do not stop, said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and urged the police to take action against touts and illegal dance bars that are operating in the beach village.
Lobo also said that amplified music should be stopped after 10 pm as per the direction of the High Court.
“These illegal activities have to stop. All the dance bars should be immediately stopped. The panchayat has given them licence only for restaurants but they have misused the licence,” Lobo said.
He further said that the panchayat should take immediate action against the dance bars by writing to the BDO and seal the place.
The Calangute MLA was speaking to journalists after meeting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and all the panchayat members of Calangute on Monday.
The MLA and the Sarpanch appealed to the CM to take action against the touts and illegal dance bars in Calangute.
Continuing, Lobo said anti-social elements have increased and a few touts were extorting the tourists which need to stop.
