Offering assistance well beyond its jurisdiction, the Pilerne-Marra panchayat in Bardez provided aid to the flood-affected people in Sattari and Sankhali.
Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar, Dy Sarpanch Sonal Malvankar and panch members Ajay (Amarnath) Govekar, Karan Govekar, Santosh Bandodkar, Brenda Vaz, Pramila Govekar and Roshna Rane visited the flood-affected areas of Sattari and Sankhali.
They visited Barajan, Dhamse, Kankire, Padeli, Khadki villages in Valpoi which were affected in the recent floods and distributed essential relief materials like clothes, blankets, towels, books and clothes for children, sarees and regular clothes for women.
They also visited Guleli village where many houses where totally damaged and Akhil Vishwa Goshala at Nanus-Valpoi where several cows got drowned in the floods.
“Several areas of Sattari and Sankhali were devastated due to heavy floods in the region. Houses were damaged, people had become homeless and their furniture, clothes, appliances and documents were washed away,” said Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar.
“The members of Pilerne-Marra panchayat decided to help the flood-affected people and purchased the clothes, blankets, foodgrains, etc. and distributed them to the flood-affected people of Sattari and Sankhali,” he said.
Former sarpanch and present panch Amarnath Govekar said the flood had been a natural disaster and hence, it was the responsibility of every individual to provide humanitarian support to the flood-affected people.
“It is for this reason the Pilerne-Marra panchayat decided to help the flood-affected people of Sattari and Sankhali. These people are in trouble and need support not only from the government but from social organisations too. Other panchayats should also come forward and provide the humanitarian support to these people,” he said.
