Raia village witnessed huge wastage of drinking water after a pipe ruptured at
Dagval in the wee hours of Wednesday.
While water from the damaged pipeline gushed out for well over three hours, the water found its way into two houses, including a mud house, forcing the residents to make way for draining the water to save their structures.
A local resident Xavier Fernandes told The Goan that the water from the damaged line at Dagval reached as far as Damon-Raia, indicating the wastage of drinking water when many areas of the district have been witnessing water scarcity. Xavier pointed out that local residents have maintained that the water pipeline must have ruptured as early as 4 in the morning and the water was found gushing out even after 7 am. “Water gushed into people’s houses and also damaged the main road, which was hot-mixed recently,” he added.
Senior PWD officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation much later in the day.
