Plan to discontinue badges for taxi drivers questioned

Slamming the Tourism Department for insisting to do away with badges for taxi drivers, Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) supremo Manoj Parab said that it is a conspiracy to hand over the taxi business to outsiders.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Saturday, Parab pointed out that in a recent meeting of different departments, the Tourism Director insisted that badges for taxi drivers be done away with.

“This is being done as a larger conspiracy to hand over the taxi business to outsiders. For anyone to get a badge, the local language is compulsory, a character certificate is needed along with knowledge of the State and other criteria,” Parab informed.

“However, it appears that there is a plan to bring in outsiders in the taxi business and sideline the local taxi operators,” he stated and warned that any such move would not be tolerated by the Revolutionary Goans who would agitate, if needed.

Further, Parab condemned the move of GTDC for calling taxi drivers to register with them as far as Mopa taxi counter is concerned.
