The State government has begun proceedings to recover monies from the errant builder Venkatesh Prabhu Moni as per the directions issued by the State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) court.

North Goa Collector Mamu Hage has asked the Canara Bank to recover interest/penalty and compensation from the builder (defaulter) by sale of his movable/immovable property as arrears of Land Revenue.

“In order to comply with the directions of the Goa RERA you are directed to strictly comply with the court directions and recover an amount of Rs 4 crore with accumulated interest till actual payment recoverable from the defaulter along with the penalty of Rs 50 lakh imposed by GRERA,” Hage said.

“Further, you are directed to ensure that the amount which remains over and above after the recovery of the outstanding dues of the bank shall be retained with the bank and inform the details of the amount which remains after recovery of the dues to the Mamlatdar of Bardez for taking further necessary action,” she added.

GRERA had recently ordered the builder to pay Rs 4 crore compensation to the flat/unit owners for defective construction and failure to handover the units on time.

Moni was sentenced in a cheque bouncing case where he was ordered to undergo a six-month rigorous jail term.
