As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of tourists, the Calangute Police Station has intensified its drive against touts and illegal agents operating in the popular beach belt. During the latest operation conducted on Saturday, police booked two persons under Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code and apprehended 13 touts/illegal agents involved in harassing or misleading tourists.
All the touts were produced before the SDM, Mapusa, and remanded to three days’ judicial custody. Police said the drive aims to safeguard visitors from exploitation and ensure that their experience in Calangute remains pleasant and trouble-free. “Our goal is to see that every tourist leaves Calangute with fond memories, free from the nuisance of illegal activities,” a police official stated.
With the festive season approaching, Calangute Police have stepped up preventive measures to maintain law and order and prevent any incidents that could disrupt festivities. Authorities have also appealed to the public and tourists to report any cases of touting, overcharging, or other illegal activities to the nearest police personnel.
