Calangute Police have arrested two men from Sangli, Maharashtra, in connection with the theft of a tourist’s backpack at Baga beach, which contained valuables worth around Rs 1.85 lakh.
The case was registered at Calangute Police Station on November 4 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, following a complaint lodged by Ms Madhavi Namjibhai Patel, a resident of Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
According to the complaint, between 6 pm and 7.30 pm on the same day, an unknown person stole her backpack while she was at Baga beach, Calangute.
The bag contained three mobile phones (iPhone 14, Samsung Galaxy S25, Samsung Galaxy A50s), an ID card, a wallet with Rs 5,000 in cash, clothes, and a rent-a-bike key.
During the investigation, police traced the location of the stolen mobile phones to Sangli, Maharashtra.
A Calangute Police team was sent to the area, where two suspects were apprehended – Kishor Raju Kore (27) and Parshram Satish Bansode (25), both residents of Sangli.
Police recovered the three stolen mobile phones from their possession.
The accused were brought to Calangute Police Station for further interrogation.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Calangute PI Paresh Naik, with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Rahul Gupta (IPS).
