MARGAO
Margao Police have arrested Sameer Khan (28), son of Mehboob Khan, a native of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly assaulting an on-duty police constable and causing him head injuries while attempting to evade apprehension.
The incident occurred on October 30, 2026, at around 7:45 PM, when PC Saiesh Kavlekar of IRBN, deputed at Margao Town Police Station, was performing picket duty near KRC Station, Aquem.
While patrolling near a wine store, the constable intercepted the accused, who was found carrying three mobile phones. When questioned about their ownership, the accused allegedly became aggressive, engaged in a scuffle and fled towards Victor Hospital.
During the chase, the accused allegedly hurled a stone at the constable, hitting him on the head and causing bleeding injuries. Despite being injured, PC Saiesh displayed exemplary courage, pursued and successfully apprehended the accused with the assistance of members of the public. The injured constable was shifted to Victor Hospital for treatment, informed Margao Police station in-charge, PI Arun Gauns Desai.
The Police has registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and arrested the accused.
Further investigation is in progress by ASI Ranjitkumar Dessai under the supervision of PI Arun Gauns Dessai.
