Ponda PI Sudesh Naik, Traffic Inspector Ram Asare, Sarpanch Shrikant Shet Verenkar, Panch Vinay Naik, Vaishali Naik, Satyavan Palkar, Swati Palkar and others were present for the meeting at Savoiverem.
It may be recalled that on March 23, Yash Shirodkar died in an accident involving a motorcycle and a sand-laden truck at Karpatember-Savoiverem. The residents have been raising voice against rash driving by sand trucks since last two years.
The police officers present at the meeting assured the villagers to deploy constables at vital points and also to keep a check on their speed limits.
“Action will be taken against those who break the law,” Sudesh Naik said.
Ram Asare said his staff will take action against sand trucks, if found plying from 1 pm to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 9 am. “They will have to follow the timing to curb the nuisance faced by the locals,” he added.
The locals have demanded that the information of all labourers working in sand trade should be made available to the police by their employers.
