Police face questions on vehicle damage during road blockade

MARGAO
As the Goa Police initiating the exercise to summon the protesters allegedly involved in the Old Market road blockade to demand arrest of Subhash Velingkar over his DNA remarks on St Francis Xavier, the men-in-uniform may have to grapple with a contentious question “ is any investigation ordered into the damage caused to over dozens of vehicles after the police lathicharge on the protesters October 5?

Leave alone summoning the erring policemen involved in causing damage to the two-wheelers parked around the Old Market circle, sources in the Police department informed that no inquiry has been ordered into the damage to the vehicles.

In fact, after the police ordered a lathicharge on the protesters to clear the road blockade at the Old Market circle, the policemen have been accused of literally going berserk, not only punishing the protesters, but their two-wheelers as well.

In fact, a number of two-wheelers were found strewn around the Old Market circle after they became the target of the rampaging policemen.

In fact, one of the primary cause behind the police forcing journalists covering the lathicharge to delete the footage was to save them from being charged for damaging the parked two-wheelers.

The Fatorda police have booked cases against the leaders of the agitation, besides 500 others for blocking the road at Old Market under the BNS Act and under the National Highway Act.

Based on the FIR, the Fatorda police have started issuing summons to the leaders as well as the people who had protested at the Old Market circle to demand FIR against Subhash Velingkar for his comments on St Francis Xavier.
