An Inter Departmental Scheme awareness programme on government schemes on theme of “Swachata hi Seva” was organised by Village Panchayat of Sao Jose de Areal.
In all, three departments namely Directorate of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries and Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services participated in the event.
The programme was graced by Michelle Rebello, Zilla Panchayat member, who gave vegetable seeds free of cost to the farmers in Sao Jose de Areal. She informed the gathering that her farmer club will provide harvester for conducting paddy harvesting operations in Salcete taluka and encouraged all to contact her office to avail of the same.
Carmelina Fernandes, Sarpanch of Sao Jose de Areal spoke on various initiatives taken by her panchayat during her tenure. She underlined the need for scientific disposal of garbage in the village and exhorted the villagers for proper disposal of waste into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste. She promised initiatives on agriculture will be supported by the panchayat and also distribute free fertiliser to the farmers.
Ryan Rangel, Assistant Agriculture Officer of ZAO, Margao explained various schemes of the Agriculture Department on Krishi cards, fencing, irrigation infrastructure, assured price of major Goan crops.
Akshata Naik, Fisheries officer gave idea about various schemes of the Fisheries Department to the farmers present.
