Ten Vasco police personnel escaped unhurt when their police jeep turned turtle near the Meta Strips factory at Sancoale on Friday Morning.
While the police said the mishap had occurred after one tyre burst, eyewitnesses claimed that the mishap happened as the driver attempted to overtake a truck in a rash manner leading to his losing control over the vehicle.
According to Verna police, the incident took place as the Vasco police station jeep (GA-07-G-0815) was proceeding towards the Verna police station for the bandobast along with 6 police constables, two lady constables, a lady home guard and the driver regarding the grounded pontoon issue at Arossim beach.
On reaching near the Meta Strips factory at Sancoale, a tyre of the Sumo jeep reportedly burst and the vehicle crashed into a road divider. The jeep then jumped over the divider and turn turtle and came to rest on its roof, police claimed.
Police added that all occupants escaped unhurt, as investigations are in progress.
However, eyewitnesses at the site refuted the 'burst tyre' theory put forth by the police.
“The police Sumo jeep was trying to overtake a truck near the Meta Strips factory, while proceeding from Vasco towards Verna. As the driver was overtaking the truck, the front wheel hit the divider and the Sumo jumped over the divider to the other lane and later turn turtle,” an eyewitness told The Goan.
