MARGAO
Congress-turned-BJP MLA & former chief minister Digambar Kamat on Friday reminded that politicians have not come from the heavens and it has become a tendency to paint all politicians as looters and liars.
He was commenting on a query from a student at an interaction organised by the Director of Sports at the Ravindra bhavan on the occasion of the 160th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The student told the anchor that if he becomes a minister, he would order a crackdown on corruption and would revolutionize India. When the anchor asked Kamat for his comment, he said politicians have not come from the heavens.
“The current tendency amongst the people is to blame the politicians for all the ills. They paint the politicians as chors and looters and liars. But, we should know that without politicians, nothing can be done,” he said.
Giving an insight into his political background, Kamat reminded that he did not come from a family with a political background. “I had no political family background, but I have come up in politics, from being a class monitor to joining social clubs such as Rotary and Samrat in the city. I entered the field of politics when I became a councillor of the Margao Municipal Council.”
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai said unless the people join politics, it would be difficult to eliminate the bad things in society. “It is the responsibility of the people to join politics and strengthen the laws, Forget the perception that politics is dirty and corrupt. To bring about a change, we have to encourage people, especially the youth to join politics,” Subhash added.
