Ponda poised for Rs 80 crore boost with GSUDA blessing

In a significant boost to develop Ponda town, the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has approved five major projects of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC), which is estimated to cost over Rs 80 crore

PROJECTS OF DEVELOPMENT

* 'Underpass road\' from St Anne Church to the cemetery to facilitate religious processions

* Area measuring 16,000 sq mtrs acquired for a parking and recreation facility

* Football ground to be built in the heart of city, adjacent to PMC office at Tisk

* Development of Shastri hall building, which is in dilapidated condition, will be carried out

* Development of PMC garden and also development of Ward 3 and 4 to make it model wards

PONDA:

The project includes development of parking and recreational centre, underpass road, development of Shastri hall building and multi level parking, development of municipal garden and development of Ward 3 and 4, as a model under \'City Development Plan\'.

PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak informed that the proposal of all the development works were principally passed by GSUDA in 2015.

“Now, we have got confirmation that these works have got approval. They have laid some conditions, which we will adhere to and will place it before the people of Ponda to inform them about the projects,” she said.

Naik said these will be five major projects during their term. “These projects will provide better facilities to the people of Ponda and I would say that they are really major projects for us,” Nayak said.

Councillor Irvin Soares, who is following up the works, said football ground will be built adjacent to the municipal council, while parking facility and gymkhana building will also become reality under the project.

“Area measuring 16,000 sq mtrs has been acquired for a parking and recreation facility. This ground will be in the heart of city, adjacent to PMC office at Tisk and it will be best place for football lovers.”

Soares also informed that GSUDA has given approval for \'underpass road\' of about 60 mtrs from St Anne Church to the cemetery to facilitate religious processions. “It will be unique project in Ponda town,” Soares said.

“This will be first project in Goa which will be constructed using advance technology,” added Soares.

Development of Shastri hall building, which is in dilapidated condition, will be carried out. He informed that a commercial project will come up after demolishing the Shastri hall building and multilevel parking will be also in place here.

Soares said development of PMC garden will be undertaken by GSUDA and also development of Ward 3 and 4 to make it the model wards.
