Ambani is the chairman of Reliance ADA Group and he was speaking at a summit on Make-in-India for defence sector, which was held during DefExpo 2016 in Quitol-Naqueri, Quepem. It is only recently that the central government has liberalised defence sector for private participation and therefore most private companies have low experience in this sector. Given that, most private companies will not qualify for defence contracts if the government insists upon experience. Ambani said, “This is a chicken-and-egg kind of a story. It is the commitment which should be valued more than the experience.” Ambani further said, “The people and the government have to work together to find out how to reduce the position of India as world s largest importer of defence products. Besides, it is important to ensure that contracts are awarded in time and procurement process is transparent.”Reliance Defence, over last 12 months, has made huge strides in defence sector by first acquiring Pipavav Shipyard and later getting 12 industrial licenses for manufacturing of defence equipments. Reliance ADA Group is also setting up India s first integrated Dhirubhai Ambani aerospace park spread over 300 acres in Nagpur.
