While the BJP-backed panels won most seats at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) elections, it was dismal performance by the Congress-backed panel as it could win only two seats and the NCP fared even worse and its panel could not win a single seat in the 25-ward municipality.
The two Congress-backed candidates who won were Shraddha Amonkar, wife of GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar, in Ward 8 and Yogita Parsekar in Ward 9.
Speaking to reporters, Shraddha Amonkar alleged that the victory of BJP in Mormugao constituency was only after instilling fear in the minds of voters.
"I want to thank all my voters who, despite several assurances of the BJP, had faith in my work and got me elected. The government machinery was being misused and I have personally been a victim of these tactics,” said Amonkar.
