Portion of FL Gomes Road to be blocked for six months

VASCO

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has announced that a portion of FL Gomes Road from the IOC Junction to Maharaja Hotel will be blocked for six months as works begin on the construction of a ramp. The ramp will serve as an exit route connecting Vasco to the four-lane connectivity flyover.

“The construction work is expected to cause temporary inconvenience for the people, but it will result in a long-term permanent solution to decongest the city. Heavy vehicles to and from the port will move from the four-lane flyover, leaving traffic movement for small vehicles on the Swatantra Path. Traffic police will be placed to ensure smooth movement of traffic,” Salkar said.

MLA Salkar has pressed Gammon India and National Highways to expedite the works and complete the project at the earliest. The ramp will have columns and a 5-6 meter road on each side, easing vehicle movement after its construction. The ramp’s location has been shifted towards the Maharaja Hotel, considering congestion near the Vasco market and Masjid area.

Once the ramp and port connectivity arm connecting to the port are completed, heavy vehicles to and from the port will not enter the city, decongesting it entirely. The ramp’s completion will eliminate fatal accidents caused by heavy vehicles, Salkar added.
