Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao Ajit Panchwadkar said the authorities had made a plea to the residents inhabiting Fakirband at Margao and Tolleabandh at Benaulim to vacate and move to safer places as a precautionary measure as the flood water was rising dangerously in the areas.
Fire brigade rushed to Cuncolim after the wall of the old ground-plus one building, which was put for acquisition by the PWD for highway expansion, came down. Barring one or two shops, the old building has not been in occupation since the time the PWD had put the building for acquisition for high
way expansion.
The fire brigade informed that no one was injured in the incident, and estimated the loss of property to Rs 75,000.
The Margao fire brigade was virtually on its toes on Tuesday as they received around eight calls throughout the day after uprooted trees came crashing on the roads at several places, blocking
vehicular traffic.
Reports of uprooted trees blocking roads came from Dramapur, Seraulim, Arlem-Raia, Chinchinim, Aquem, besides Fatorda where a huge tree crashed on the road near Don Bosco College, Fatorda.
